ALMA Newsletter: current situation in Lebanon

5th of November 2024

Dear ALMA Colleagues
The current situation in Lebanon is grave and the Lebanese are in desperate need for our help
throughout Lebanon. This situation is not only acute but will be long-term and the Lebanese
population need our help.
The Australian Lebanese Medical Association will embark on a fund-raising drive to help coordinate
and target relief to the Lebanese population in an appropriate and accountable manner.

As you are aware ALMA has an office and a project officer within the Lebanese ministry of public
health (MOPH) working with the UN International Organisation of Migration (IOM). This office allows
us to determine what areas of need we should target in our fundraising by also obtaining
information from the MOPH. The distribution of aid will be co-ordinated with the IOM. A report will
be issued regularly to account for the aid given to Lebanon and its utilisation.
The IOM, as per attached letter will work with ALMA and ensure the distribution of our aid is
appropriate. Using financial funds, we can target the areas of need and ensure they are then
utilised.

This is a link that will allow donations to be made to ALMA that are tax deductible.

Our efforts will be on-going and I thank you and all our Lebanese community in Australia for their
support in our fund raising efforts. By working together we can hopefully help our Lebanese with
Lebanon.
Thank you and with the warmest of regards

Dr Walid Ahmar
National President of the Australian Lebanese Medical Association
