Today is world hypertension day! How well do you k Today is world hypertension day! How well do you know your blood pressure?๐Ÿง This day has been established to highlight the preventable stroke, heart and kidney diseases caused by high blood pressure.

High blood pressure or hypertension as it is commonly known is a chronic medical condition and a major risk factor for heart attack and stroke. When untreated it can damage arteries and vital organs throughout the body. This is why high blood pressure is called the โ€œsilent killerโ€.

Hypertension in many people can be preventable, easily detected and treatable which is why it is important to โ€œknow your blood pressureโ€.

For further information about your blood pressure visit your GP or local pharmacist.

The lymphatic system forms part of your immune sys The lymphatic system forms part of your immune system that is responsible for eliminating wastes and toxins from the body.

The system is made up of lymph nodes and valves connected by vessels. A fluid known as lymph travels through these vessels to pick up waste from every single cell in the body, helping fight infections and removing pathogens from the body.

There are several things we can do to help improve our immunity through lymphatic flow:
๐Ÿ‘‰๐ŸปMovement - Through exercise or massage gets the lymph in our body flowing
๐Ÿ‘‰๐Ÿป Deep breathing and yoga - Muscle contraction (such as diaphragm) is important for stimulating lymphatic flow.
๐Ÿ‘‰๐Ÿป Staying hydrated - Adequate hydrate is needed to flush out the waste and toxins
๐Ÿ‘‰๐Ÿป Consuming antioxidants and bioflavonoids found in raw fruit and vegetables to help break down toxin build up and combat free radicals
๐Ÿ‘‰๐Ÿป Dry brushing - a simple and inexpensive way to encourage lymph flow using a brush made for dry brushing, you gentle brush the skin working your way up from the toes.

Caffeine which is most often consumed in coffee or Caffeine which is most often consumed in coffee or tea has become a common part of our morning routine as we begin to tackle the day. While many people rely on their morning coffee to hit the day running, timing our coffee by waiting afew hours after we wake may be better to get the best results from our morning caffeine hit!

Caffeine has been shown to elevate our stress related hormone, cortisol, which tends to peak first thing in the morning and continues to rise and fall over a 24hr period. Because the effects of caffeine occur naturally in the morning, delaying your coffee to mid-late morning could mean giving your body an energy boost when you really need it and as your cortisol levels off. ๐Ÿ’ช๐Ÿป๐Ÿ’ช๐Ÿป๐Ÿ’ช๐Ÿป

Overuse of caffeine can cause heart palpitations, insomnia and anxiety in some people but in moderate use there is no definite link between the moderate consumption of coffee and ill health.

Atherosclerosis is a disease in the blood vessels Atherosclerosis is a disease in the blood vessels where cholesterol, fats, and other substances build up in and on the arterial walls. The build up of these substances causes the arterial walls to become thickened and stiff reducing blood flow to organs and tissues which can cause heart attacks, stroke, aneurysm or a blood clot.

There are several risk factors including non modifiable including age, gender, and genetics that and modifiable risk factors that we can control. These include our behaviours and habits such as smoking, exercise, diet, and monitoring other factors including blood pressure and our cholesterol levels. โ€œStand guard to the door of your mindโ€ Jim Roh โ€œStand guard to the door of your mindโ€ Jim Rohn.

We respond to circumstances based on how we perceive them, but our perception may not always be an accurate reflection of reality. This can be caused by our belief systems, fears, or insecurities which results in thoughts that are negative destructive or unhelpful and impacts how we behave.

Negative thinking patterns tend to take over when we let anxiety take over. This is why it is important to recognise your inner self talk is negative and then find alternative thoughts that are more supportive and realistic that help cultivate a a positive and empowering mindset!
